All in a Day's Work

Life is pretty great. Most days are just average, regular ol', run of the mill, boring and generally inconsequential. Here is one of them.

Woke up (early, but went back to bed, so late)
Traffic (not so bad)
Staff Meeting (School Improvement this time..on time:) Twice in a row...I'm becoming punctual! ) Protein Shake for breakfast-need to get more at Costco.
Dinking around my classroom..I checked my email, waiting for a response to a question I had about my application for grad school..getting ready for my classes.
2nd grade-usually my favorite class, today, they were chatty and whiny. Argh. But still adorable. We worked on accent beats, danced a dance called "Irish Stew" and learned a song and played some instruments. (Thank you, Game Plan..you are saving my life)
1st grade-another chatty and whiny class. (Seriously, it must be the weather) They were really picking on each other today! A little movement to "The Irish Washerwoman" (that was pretty cute), singing and instruments and taking mallets away when they played what they weren't supposed to, etc, etc. It's exciting to watch them grow and frustrating when they don't listen.
Duty-those kids were insane today! and our PE teacher mysteriously disappeared during lunch duty, so it was a little shorthanded. They used their walking feet all the way to their lunch buckets..those little angels;).
Prep-I ate a BBQ chicken salad in the staff lounge and went to Smith's to get ARCADE FIRE TICKETS!!! (so stoked) Little bro is going to the show in Salt Lake, so I'm riding solo. 20 minute wait for nothing..they were out of tickets again-even though they'd released some more yesterday. Called ticketmaster, still no tickets, bought some treats (for me and my students-but mostly me), back to school. Ordered ticket online at stubhub (I've been stalking it for weeks waiting for prices to go down). Called the Department of Counselor Education at UNLV, left message.
3rd Grade-Did a little Question-Answer. (I'm finding how difficult it really is to teach musical concepts. No wonder I still didn't understand them in college!) I hope they got it!
5th grade-Recorder Championship..Ms Wilson visits a little early and participates in the fun! My upper grades are getting better. It's frustrating sometimes..the younger grades are definitely easier for me to get excited about.
4th grade-no class, extra prep.  Called UNLV again, this time talked to Pat. There's hope after all! (Stupid Graduate office..did you not listen when I called and e-mailed?) Looked for some more songs for our Multicultural Performance in May. I'm keeping it simple, and have decided to get more of my classes involved. I'm going to open it up to the rest of my students (as my choir is slowly dwindling), and hopefully I'll get a few more singers. I'm still figuring out how to run a choir..not as easy as it looks, that's for sure!
Volunteer at battered woman's shelter-I teach a piano class to one very consistent student who is adorable and focused (and practices!). This time I had another kid come for a little while, but it mostly just the one. I like it that way, though..it's hard when all of those keyboards are playing at one time. I need to get some headphones so I can go to each student separately.
Dinner-Hawaiian at a little mom and pop place, and saw someone I knew on TV. Education reform? We'll see..Best Kalua Pork I've ever had, BTW.
Meeting with my counselor-always enlightening. I (literally) want to have my cake and eat it too.
Home-facebook, internet, youtube, blogging, avoiding writing up lyrics for songs for choir, and my brace came! I've been waiting for this brace all week. Hopefully it will help my knee stabilize and I can finally do more physically. I want to do Race for the Cure on my birthday!
Threw in a load of laundry (seriously low on the whites, if you know what I mean;)
Whew! Almost Bed.
