A Modern Fairy Tale

Once upon a time there was a girl with a quick brain and a beautiful heart. She had a lot of courage from doing scary things and had a lot of confidence from making mistakes and still being OK, but her most special gift of all was her happiness! Her smile had magical powers that helped everyone around her want to be happy too. She did everything everyone told her to do when she was little: go to school, serve others, grow her talents and learn how to be a responsible human. They also told her she needed to find a prince. In fact, that's what they told her the most; more than any other thing. She read a lot of stories that told her that of all the things she wanted to be,  finding a prince was the MOST important. So the girl tried and tried to do everything she could so that one day a prince would say, " I think you are a good idea." She went to all sorts of places to meet all kinds of princes. Even online. She wore all kinds of dresses and learned all kinds of dances, but the princes didn't like her dance. She tried all kinds of different ways to make herself the most beautiful of all the girls, but that didn't turn out so good either. The girl tried for a really long time to be happy looking for her prince, but it was very lonely, and pretty soon it was all she thought about. In fact, she forgot about all of her wonderful gifts like her brain and her heart and her courage, and lost the most special gift of all.. Her happiness. This made the girl very sad, so she decided to go out and find it again. She traveled the world and smiled and danced with lots of people and gave away lots of hugs  and did brave things. She saw and did things that made her smile:  like bad karaoke, going to the beach, going to concerts and screaming at the top of her lungs. She thought really hard about what she wanted to do with her life that would help others find their happiness too, and she would even have summers off! She did all the things that her heart wanted to do. She even forgot to look for her prince some days, she was so busy being happy again. Sometimes people still reminded the girl she needed to be looking for her prince. They even felt sorry for her because she hadn't found him yet!  She tells them if he was the right prince for her, he'd like that she was busy being happy. In fact, he'd be busy being happy too. And they would both think the other was a GREAT idea! One of the best ever!  So the girl got lots of stamps in her passport and lots of pictures in the front row of concerts and lots of memories meeting wonderful people, and it was the most happy life she never thought she'd live, because no one told her that being happy with  or without a prince was the best ending of all. Now she likes reading other people's stories because their endings are all different too. Endings are just new beginnings anyway.

The End. The Beginning. Whatever.

Wonderful way to put it. One of my friends would say that she didn't see herself getting married, when she thought of her future she didn't figure a husband into the plan. We talked about how you can only plan for your own, hopefully flexible future. Because in the end, you can't make decisions for a hypothetical person anyways, because who knows what they would want to do anyways? Your own happiness is the most important.
